Stanley is a D-Day veteran who recently marked his 105th birthday. Born one of eight children on a farm near Headcorn, Stanley Robert Elliss originally held an art scholarship.

nstead, he answered the call of duty and joined the RAF, eventually landing on Gold Beach on D-Day to help secure vital airstrips for Allied Spitfires.

Now a decorated Legion d’Honneur recipient and Burma Star veteran, he celebrated this remarkable milestone on October 22, surrounded by loved ones at Brambles Care Home in Wye.
